New bits.

Well with the help of Jeff and Zac, we managed to chuck some nice new(ish) parts in my old clunker of a pc. The "new" parts are nothing special but they are a pretty "prime" upgrade according to Zac. I'm not too fussed that I'm not running a state of the art pc, but I am happy that I'm comfortably sitting on a nice amount of ram (3gb) nice new mobo (GA-M59SLI-S4 GIGABYTE) and some random AMD Athlo X2 Dual-Core. Also threw in a 6800 gs which isn't much at all but still for the time being does ok. IF anyone reads this and has a go at my "new" parts being not so new and that there are better things out there (of course) , its about time i said that i got all that for a measly 100$ so its a bargain. However i still need a new psu for all this cause my old one is simply not enough.

At the time of writing I have already begun to think of the future , which hopefully will include a ATI Radeon HD 4850 or a Inno 3d 512 8800Gt and nice new 620w corsair psu(which i need this very second to play games!!) and oh yeah i need a sata dvd drive cause my mobo has only 2 ide slots and i have 2 ide hard drives and a ide dvd drive.

So currently I can't play most of my games at an acceptable frame rate for me, because of insufficeint power and I cant play old games off the cd's because i dont have a dvd drive.

So yeah I'm going to go make some penis monsters on Spore.

My Intelligence Profile?

So yeah I did the intellegence test today and was pretty interested in my results.
I pretty much agree with most of the results.

Large Hadron Collider

Ok I know this blog isnt exactly relatated to PC tech stuff but its still none the less interesing.

LHC is short for Large Hadron Collider . The LHC is the worlds largest particle accelerator and is located at Geneva in Sweden, When the LHC is first put into use, it is theorized that the collider will hopefully produce the elusive Higgs boson, the observation of which could confirm the predictions and what the scietists really hope to find are some "missing links" in the standard model of physics and could explain how other elementary Particles acquire properties such as mass .The conformation of the existence of the Higgs boson would be a significant step in the search for a Grand Unified Theory, which seeks to unify three of the four known fundamental forces: electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force & the weak nuclear force, leaving out only gravity. The Higgs boson may also help to explain why gravitational force is so weak compared to the other three forces. In addition to the Higgs boson, other theorized particles that could be produced, and for which searches are planned, include strangelets, micro black holes ,magnetic monopoles and super symmetric particles. Another pretty interesting thing they hope to find out is Are there extra dimensions? Or can extra dimensions been seen just like it is described by string theory, and would we be able to interact with them at all.
When I was reading up on this I came across a section about how the creation of micro black holes and strangelets could spell a possible doomsday situation. When I read that bit I thought to myself "oh yeah black holes are good , so why do we want to risk making them anyway" , but then further down in the section one scientist had already challenged the "doomsday" theory by saying that over the million or so years of earths existence that there could have already been countless interactions between the particles needed to make these black holes and strangelets and so far we are still here so the the event of causing one is a small as the chance of it happening in nature. I think the chance was something like 1 in 50,000,000

Still all this mucking around with technology and things that we don't really know much about seems kind of reminiscent of a certain FPS.

Resonance Cascade anyone?

Saitek Cyborg Gaming Keyboard

Well over the weekend I was searching around for a new keyboard because I am afraid that my current keyboard might just decide to croak it rather soon. After all its survived roughly 5 years of my physical abuse. So I was browsing around and came across a beast of a keyboard called the Cyborg Keyboard.
Now it could be that this keyboard is nothing more than a load of rubbish and has too many unnecessary functions but for the uber elite among us this keyboard should be very tempting. It even has for the hardcore gamer, metal-plated key caps metal-plated key caps.
Also it has 12 programmable "cyborg" keys which would be extremely handy just for net surfing or for gaming as well. You can even change the back lighting colours, while this is really not amazing or needed it is none the less cool. Its even got a usb and audio jack.
So needless to say I was pretty impressed about this keyboard just because it looks like something out of Stargate or Starwars, but yet I'm not 100% sure I'd use most of the functions of this keyboard. Apparently some reviewers have had a hard time with the software that comes with the board. Also after all these years of having a corded keyboard it would be kind of nice to have a wireless keyboard which this board is not.

Check it out.

D'Fusion.

AUGMENTED REALITY

D’FUSION®
is a real time visual software which makes possible to create Augmented Reality Applications with standard PC receiving one or several video inputs, with high performance and high quality images.

D’FUSION®:

    • works with HD
    • works with one PC or several PC's on an ethernet network
    • handles in real-time videos taken froms cameras standing still or moving/instrumented cameras
    • handles in real-time animated virtual 3D objects either static or dynamic
    • uses a brand new technology : Markerless Tracking

D’FUSION® is delivered with all the necessary tools for calibration, and for an immediate use of the technology.

This seems like a really awesome use of technology , The possibility's this technology that could be used for game play is pretty awesome to think.
I can imagine this being used to great extend for RPG's and FPS's. It would be great one day to actually being holding your weapon(s) and to be able to see the amount of destruction that you are causing on the screen in real time.
Alos the use that this techology has for other than games is pretty amazing, it was pretty cool to watch the presentor show us how this technology can be used for design purposess. I can invision in a few years seeing designers using this to easily design entire citys and maybe even iinterior deisgners too. Even at this stage i was pretty impressed with the ablity to see every event play out right infront off me, i think its due to the fact that everything looked like it was actaully happening even though it was just 3d video.

Vet IT laptops.

I have just finished setting up my Dell laptop. I didn't really have any major hassle , when it came to installing Windows XP, Firefox and the other applications, however it did take me some time to figure out how to install the wireless connection. Yet that was fixed easily and quickly when i realised that all i had to do was simply enable the connection using the functions keys.
We also had to set up some older compaq laptops, the one I had to set up worked fine as soon as i got it and the OS was installed drama free. The only thing I had to change to get the wireless connection working was to upgrade the serviece pack from SP 2 to SP 4.
So in conclusion, all the work on the laptops was completed without any drama or problems.
